Individual contributor responsible for providing technical skills to the the development of wireless access technologies. This includes Wi-Fi and 5G RF design, RAN Optimization and deployment support. The candidate shall be a part of the team responsible for providing wireless technology roadmap with stakeholders, i.e. product organization, engineering and operations as well as vendors and MSO partners. The candidate will also be part of a team responsible for defining and developing Charter’s wireless access technology architecture.
Emerging the wireless access efforts of Charter, Time Warner Cable (TWC) and Bright House Networks (BHN) and driving the implementation of this unified Charter solution, allowing wireless access within the customer’s home, business and on the go.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will be part of a team primarily responsible for the Wireless Radio Access Network (RAN) design, optimization and engineering. He/She will be expected to closely collaborate with other engineering organizations, product development organizations, vendors, MSO partners and standards and policy organizations.
The candidate should have proficient understanding on how to establish Design criteria, Link budget and traffic analysis as needed for network.
The candidate should have proficient documentation skill to provide leadership with technical Bulletins, powerpoint presentations and technical documentation(MOP, design specs, best practice, network architecture and topologies) for both Wi-Fi and 5G network infrastructure, within and across functions.
The candidate must be proficient with data analytics on design statistics (Tonnage Offload, Area covered, Design mapping) for enhanced visualization using spatial analytics tools such as Alteryx, MapInfo, ArcGis, QGIS, ArcMap which enables leadership to make strategic decisions.
The candidate will work across functional teams to secure Data inputs such as AOI’s, Geodata Traffic Maps, Clutter Data, demand data, asset data, etc. These data will be transformed using Alteryx, ARCGIS, QGIS and mapping tools to inputs for ATOLL.
The candidate must have a strong background in performing end to end RF design, propagation modeling and prediction, capacity analysis for both Wi-Fi and CBRS (5G NR and LTE) i.e. Macro Cell, Small Cell, Aerial and SMB’s and In-Building solutions using RAN tools such as ATOLL, Ekahau and iBwave
The candidate should be able to perform both physical and virtual site surveys(active and passive) using Ekahau and XCAL/XCAP which will be used to validate design criteria success.
The candidate must have a sound understanding on how to establish Design criteria, Link budget and traffic analysis as needed for network.
The candidate should be open to working across functions to support operations/production network related escalations.
Responsible for new technology development and validation to include: studying new technology trends, formulating impact statement of such technologies on Charter’s wireless technology strategy and services offering, validating the capabilities of such technologies through lab evaluation and possibly field trials.
Develops a long-term technology evolution roadmap (3-5 years) articulating the strategic decision points, technology evolution plan and recommendations with regard to technology and network infrastructure investments.
Performs lab evaluation and field trials to validate new technology concepts in RAN, Fixed-Wireless and wireless backhaul technologies.
Supports Charter’s Regulatory Affairs with wireless activities such as the recent FCC Spectrum Auctions activities, represented Charter in meeting with the FCC and provides technical expertise to NCTA in responding to the FCC NPRM (Notice of Public Rule Making) regarding 5GHz, 600MHz and 3.5GHz auctions.
Reviews and assess all business requirements prior to the technical solution development.
Provides recommendation to product development organization with the objective of optimizing cost, reducing complexity and improving user experience.
Participates on all hardware and software evaluations and maintain vendor contracts.
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Deep knowledge in wireless access technologies including Wi-Fi and 4G-LTE, familiar with 5G and with a track record of excellence developing the wireless access networks within an organization of a well-known reputation.
Ability to work on complex projects within a matrix team of engineers at junior and senior levels across the different Engineering Organizations.
Strong technology expertise, excellent written and oral communication skills, superb technical skills, and a strong customer-service orientation.
Ability to and solve problems, under pressure.
BSEE in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent; MSc preferred.
Related Work Experience / Number of Years
RAN Engineering (Design and Optimization) / 10+
MSOs, Telco, satellite operators or major wireless vendor in the U.S.
