Description Peraton is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in McLean, VA. The qualified applicant will become part of Peraton’s Department of State (DOS) Consular Systems Modernization (CSM) Program, for the Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA). This initiative is intended to modernize and consolidate the operational environment under a common technology framework in order to better support the services provided to CA’s customers. As part of the modernization program, the Systems Engineer will provide production and operational support to various services running on enterprise platforms; deployment or change implementation support; in-depth troubleshooting of issues; and development and updates to Knowledge Base Articles (KBAs). The Systems Engineer must be able to quickly learn business workflows, technical architecture and dependent systems as well as service-layer interfaces of supported services. The Systems Engineer will provide proactive monitoring and alert design and implementation as an area of critical importance. Roles and Responsibilities:
Provide 24×7 production support for mission critical, mission essential and mission support services
Perform in-depth troubleshooting of production issues by reviewing logs, executing SQL queries in databases and executing other technical steps as required
Coordinate within O&M and/or with cross-functional teams to resolve or mitigate security findings and/or POA&M for Authority to Operate (ATO)
Provide significant input and/or feedback in proactive monitoring
Lead or perform active participation in service transition process from development team to O&M team before service is schedule to go-live in production
Document and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Knowledge Base Articles (KBAs) as required
Must be able to work with multiple cross-functional technical and non-technical teams
Provide deployment or change implementation support as required (mostly after business hours or on weekends)
Minimum Qualifications: To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science or related field and 14 years of experience
At least seven (7) years of hands-on experience in troubleshooting applications/services, reviewing app layer logs, and isolating cause of production issues
At least five (5) years of hands-on experience with two (2) or more enterprise platforms such as Weblogic, SOA/ESB, Siebel, and/or Salesforce
At least three (3) years of hands-on experience in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and SSL certificate provisioning and implementation
At least three (3) years of hands-on experience in one or more enterprise level monitoring tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), AppDynamics, Splunk, and/or Grafana
Well versed with Openshift platform (RHEL 7.x or higher)
Must be able to write and execute moderate SQL queries on Oracle databases
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Must be a quick learner, self-starter and be able to take initiative with limited supervision
Experience using BMC Remedy to manage incident and problem management
Must have a current Secret (or higher) clearance (interim clearances are acceptable) with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
Experience working in a SAFe or agile software development environment
Experience using engineering environments and tools that support agile development, such as SharePoint, Confluence, and IBM ELM tools
Knowledgeable in problem management, incident management, service transition processes including escalation based on incident urgency, impact, and associated priority
